Brewer Blasts Cony in Record Night

In the only match-up between Brewer and Cony the Witches beat the Rams 94-44 in what most thought was an aberration. In the Augusta Civic Center for the Class A North semifinals rematch Brewer proved that wasn’t the case on their way to 83-36 win.

Cony hit the second basket of the game to make it 3-2 Brewer before the Witches went on 37-14 run over the next eleven minutes of game time to put the Rams well behind them. It was a record setting night as the Witches hit 14 3-pointers and surpassed the old record of 13 makes in a Class A playoff game.

The barrage was led by Brock Flagg and Evan Nadeau who outscored Cony 33-30 at the end of the third quarter. Nadeau finished with a game high 20 points with five makes from deep and Flagg added 16 in a triple-double performance. Brady Saunders added in 15 in a relatively quiet night as three outscored all of Cony 51-36. Ten different players scored on the night for the Witches.

Parker Sergent and Kam Douin scored 43 points in their quarterfinal win against Mt. Blue but were held up to just 16 total points. Douin got into early foul trouble, which didn’t help in the rebounding margin, but it didn’t matter as Brewer absolutely dominated the glass all night. Only one other player had more than three points for the Rams.

Brewer will play Skowhegan in the Class A North championship Friday.
