Lawrence inbounded the ball and senior Hope Bouchard ran to the far shoulder and buried a 3-pointer that started a 15-0 run to start the second half. That run encapsulated the dominance the Bulldogs showed in a wire-to-wire 68-37 win in the Class A North semifinals over Cony.
Lawrence started the game with a 12-3 first quarter with a barrage from deep as they didn’t hit their first non-three until the 5:37 mark of the second quarter. The Bulldogs made 10 3-pointers on the night as the Rams’ zone was unable to slow down Lawrence’s offense. Their depth was also on display as five different scorers registered at least nine points.
Morgan Cunningham, Abby Morrill and Sage Fortin came into the game averaging 42 points a game, and had 43 in the win against Skowhegan, but were held to 24 combined points. Only Morrill got into double digits, tying for the game high 14, while Cunningham finished with only one point. Only ten of their points came in the second half.
Bouchard also tied for the game high 14, Alicen Higgins had 13 and Brianna Poulin added 12 for Lawrence. Freshman Madalyn Provost scored nine points and put on a dazzling passing display to come close to a double double. Alisabeth Dumont also had nine points.
Cony had an advantage from the free throw line, going 12-16 to Lawrence’s 4-7, but couldn’t cash in when they had the chance. The Rams entered the bonus around the six-minute mark in the second quarter but only drew two more fouls the rest of the half.
Lawrence will play Gardiner Friday for the Class A North championship.
