5/8/2023 Messalonskee Beats Sloppy Mt. Ararat

With Morgan Wills on the mound, it didn’t look like Messalonskee was going to need much run production, and they were aided by Mt. Ararat mistakes. Five errors and three passed balls contributed to seven unearned runs for Messo on their way to a 16-1 win in five innings.

That was more than enough for the starting pitching of Wills. Mt. Ararat got a hit in the first inning but the other three batters all struck out. Wills even had a four strike out inning after a dropped third strike allowed the baserunner to get on 1st on her way to 12 strikeouts.

Wills pitched four innings with an earned run given up on her way to the win.

The Mt. Ararat Eagles only got three hits against Wlls, four on the day, though back-to-back hits to open the 4th lead to their only run.

Paige Bell scored the run and had a single to get on base ahead of Nile’s triple. Every starter struck out at least once for Mt. Ararat.

Messo did plenty of damage with their bats with their top five in the order registering 12 of their 15 hits. Elise McDonald was 3-4 with 3 runs scored; Izzy Culver was 2-3 with 2 runs scored; Audrey Mihm was 3-4 with 3 doubles, reaching on error, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored; Morgan Wills was 1-4 with an RBI double, reaching on error and scoring twice and Lexi Bayne was 3-3 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored.

Messalonskee moves to 4-2 and plays at Bangor on Wednesday.
Mt. Ararat falls to 0-4 and hosts Oxford Hills on Tuesday.
